I was thinking of some less expensive and easier labor engine work for more hp. Installing heads is basically just bolting up and torquing down, right? what about rocker arms? If its not too hard to install, I was considering taking my current, stock 289 heads and having them milled. How much does that usually cost, and how much hp is it worth? Also, while I'm messin with the heads, I thought about mabye getting some 1.7 mabye roller, rocker arms. How much hp are these worth? Thanks

milling the heads will certainly help some. but you can get a cam for 1/2 what a set of roller rockers will cost and it will do you more good. just get someone that knows what they are doing to check the piston to valve clearance or you might have a serious piston/valve wreck. that is not a good thing.

I was trying to stay away from a cam b/c of installation costs and vacuum problems. I thought that if I got a cam, I would need to get new rocker arms anyway? What all is required to get in a cam swap?

you can get a decent cam kit (including new lifters) for about $135. a$15 gasket set is about all else that you would have to have. the srock rockers will work ok with a mild cam.

1.7 bolt on Magnum style rockers will give you a bit of a racey idle and a little performcance bump without the work of the cam change.

What kind of rocker arms do you suggest? Do I just unbolt the old ones and bolt on the new ones, or do they have to be adjusted? How much horsepower do you think?(#s) I just want to know if its worth the time and money. One more thing, if I get these rockers, will I have to adjust them often, or are my heads different? Thanks!

Comp Magnums are a good choice for street use.
To some people setting the timing correctly is not worth the time and effort so it's all reletive.
It sounds to me like you don't want to go through the trouble of swapping out a cam.
The 1.7 rocker is a simple bolt in alternative. Results will depend on the rest of the car/engine.
I wish that I had a magic wand that I could sell which would allow miraculous changes with one swish, but unfortunatley I don't.
