For those of you that run the MSD Pro-Power coil, how did you mount it? It's triangular shape doesn't lend itself to easy mounting.MSD makes a mounting bracket, but the holes in it match up to a BBC's accessory holes in the heads, not my BBF. Anyone make their own bracket? Any pics? Does any company make one for a Ford? Thanks, David Cole

Dave,I took the paper template that came with the coil and center punch each hole on my motor plate and then drilled and tapped for the rubber mounts. I then screwed the rubber mounts into the plate (seems like they were long enough to put the nuts on the back side also) and then mounted the coile to the rubber mouints. Worked great for me. If you don't have the template, you can transfer the holes to something. Do you have the rubber mounts? I definately wouldn't mount it solid. ------------------ Larry No fast Fords at this time but one fine cruising 96 F350 CC DRW Power Strokin diesel. I've had more than one TECH at MSD admit that the BEST coil to run with their system isn't MSD. it's Accel's super coil. It was like pulling teeth to get them to say so though. ------------------ Jerry 69 Mustang Pro ET Drag 70 Mustang retired former footbrake car "Even a Blind Hog can find an acorn every now and then"

Thanks guys. Thought about it last night and made my own bracket today. I didn't want to mount it on the motor plate. Saving that space for an alternator if I can ever find a crank pulley.I used a piece of 1/8" aluminum and cut it roughly the shape of the end of the head. Mounted it to the head, mounted the coil on it and then cut off the excess plate. Then for good measure I spent about 1/2 hr buffing it out. Polished it to an almost mirror finish and then remounted it with stainless washers and bolts. I used some nuts as spacers to mount it away fromt he head for airflow and to make room for the small coil mounting screws. A pic: BTW, in the pic you can see the headers flanges I was talking about in an earlier post. I had to cut out the flange on the BBC headers to get to the plugs on my BBF heads. Here is a link to another pic I took today. Shows the whole engine in the car. A little cluttered looking with all the hoses and wires, but I'll bundle/tie them after I start it and make sure there are no leaks, bugs, etc.: http://prod.bsis.bellsouth.net/coDataImages/p/Groups/66/66449/folders/51359/3479 49Image006.jpg and http://prod.bsis.bellsouth.net/coDataImages/p/Groups/66/66449/folders/51359/3479 46Image005.jpg Later, David Cole [This message has been edited by Dave_C (edited 01-21-2003).] [This message has been edited by Dave_C (edited 01-21-2003).]

Thanks for the compliments guys. It's ready to fire up. Just need to go get a couple barrels of alcohol and I'm set. And get a little warmer weather. Nervous about cranking an engine with this much valve spring pressure when it's very cold. Later, David Cole

BEST COMPETITION COIL TO RUN IS AN MSD! It's NOT the Pro Power coil though. This is direct from Joe Pando of Autotronic Controls and Gary Brown of Mr. Gasket corp. We installed it back to back at NHRA Fram Nationals and picked up 1 full MPH.Never mount a high output coil on the engine. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Ok, I'll bite. Which coil? and Why not on the engine. I'm sorta lacking a fender or anything to bolt it to. Later, David Cole
