My engine has been idling BAD ( surging between 500-1000rpm). Smoothes out when i cover the primaries. I can see the carb (edelcrock 750) is not mixing well (shooting fuel then vapor (coinsides with the surging).

fuel pump? (filter looks clean) carb? (it is a $%#$##%#$# Piece of @##$@$@$%@#@ ).

What eye do to find a leak is while the engine is running (if able), I carefully squirt a little wd40 (use extension straw) one shot at a time around the base of the carb and the edges of the intake manifold. Listen carefully, and the engine will run different when the leak is found. Good luck!

Edelbrock carbs ARE crap. (you were right Alex). I checked all around the engine for leaks, couldn't find one (the vac + may have been leaking). the engine still surged, carb still sputtered (making noise ). I decided to try my Holley, stuck it on fired her up and she purred like a kitten.

It was an early edelbrock 750.
