Who makes steel shim head gaskets for a 289? What is the compressed thickness? Where do I get them?I'm just full of questions today.

McCord made them for FoMoCo. They have been swalloed up by Dana and merged with Victor. They disscontinued the steel shim gaskets. I am working on getting some old stock right now. If you are in a hurry Cometic will make you anything you want.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." No hurry, just gathering parts for the build, the steel gaskets are thinner than felpro's aren't they? Planning on using C9OE windsor heads and need a little less thickness to keep the compression up to 9to1. (blower motor maybe)Let me know if you get some.

My experience with Shim head gaskets are the blow if you go over 9:1 compression.I know you are staying at 9:1 and you will probably be Ok for a few years. But they will eventually blow on you. My .02 Rick

I have used them huindreds, maybe even thousands of times without failure. Some with compression ratios exceeding 14 to 1. If you have flat surfaces and good fasteners, they can last indefinatly. Many, many legendary OEM high performance engines came with steel shim head gaskets from the factory. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." I don't know how good they are for SBF's but I've run a set of their Exhaust gaskets on a BBf and they were fine. Alex may know if their head gaskets are any good.
