No you're not. It happens to the best of us. Any "good" local parts store like a NAPA should have a 5/8 spark plug chaser tap. It works 90% of the time.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." If that doesn't work, Helicoil makes a spark plug repair kit.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

In the days before Helicoil, techs were often taken out back, beatened and killed. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

With the spark plugs recessed into the head so much, it may be impossible to use the Heli coil tool with the engine in the car (d@mn shock towers) good luck.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Thanks for the replies, guys, I'm feeling better. Is it o.k. to just use the chaser tap or do I need to take the cylinder head off?

Try the chaser tap first, and if that doesn't work, then we'll go from there.....
