Can it really be done? Can you really carve out another 76 cubes from a 351 when you can only get another 45 from a 302? Would a stock c4 handle it? What would the bore and stroke be?

Yes it can be done.
No a stock c-4 can't handle it, but a built one can.
It's a 4.030 std overbore with a 4.2" stroke.

A 408w is a better compromize of rod ratio and piston height it has a 4.0" stroke.

A 418 uses a 4.1" stroke.

Also a 302 block is no match for a 351w block. The 351w has a taller deck allowing more room for the longer strokes.

Dont forget that you can go to a larger overbore with some of the SVO and Dart blocks. 4.125 bore with a 4.00 stroke is about a 427. (actual 427.65 but you can round down)

These blocks of course cost more but are also stronger.

Yeah,

With an svo block you can make a 454!
4.25" Stroke X 4.125 Bore

But 427s and 454s are big block chebbies ain't they

Yeah, with aluminum heads, intake and headers it'll weigh about the same as a stock 289.

Actually no, with an SVO block and iron heads that 454" Windsor will weigh like an FE!

With aluminum heads on each, close to the same ... the SVO 351 block is heavier than a 427 (200lbs) the heads are heavier and that only makes up for the FE's heavier crank, rods, and intake.

The SVO block is unbelievably heavy, very stout piece though.

I certainly can't recommend an offset 4.187 stroked 400 crank "427" , i've seen them break and the oil holes are right at the edge of the offset journals, weaking the throws a bunch.

If you have a lot of money SVO has the alloy big bore block. I think that is what Steve Saleen is using for the all aluminum 351 based 427 he uses in the sports car he makes.

Why not just build a 385 series motor? It can be done for a resonable price. Assuming you can fit it into the engine compartment. Lower RPM, more Torque. Longer lasting. Unless of course this is a motor built for a specific class/ rule requirement racing.
