i just got a msd #8479 dist to go with my msd 6al ignition. i did not get the installation manual with it. i also cant find a manual on the msd website. the 2 wires on the dist are green and purple. the 2 wires on the lead from the ignition box are green and purple. the only way i can plug the 2 together is green to green and purple to purple. sounds very logical to me. it runs ok and the mech advance is about 15 degrees. however i called msd tech and the guy told me i had to hook green to purple and purple to green or it would not work right. i ask him why msd would make the thing where i had to cut and rearange thier factory wires to make it work. he said " i dunno" anyone had any experience with this. thanks

Mike, it's green to green and purple to purple. The guy you talked to must still be celebrating New Years.

Capri man, a quote out of the MSD manual. "Violet is (+), Green is (-). The 2 pin connectors are designed to only connect one way so the wiring cannot be switched. If for some reason the connectors are changed, be sure the wires are connected with matching polarity. If they are not, the engine may or may not start, but if it does the timing will be inconsistent and it will run rough and not accelerate." Hope this helps ya!
