For strip only use, both 1/4 and less than 1/8 mile tracks. Should my car be geared to rev at my 6k shift point in third (C4)? I will be using 26" tall tires and last year my top speeds were 106 MPH, will have more power and traction this year. Dave------------------ '70 ragtop Stang 351W - 13.70 @104.

I think you want to be at or a little over your peak hp rpms when you go through the lights. If you have more power now you should be revving higher through the end then you were last year.In extreme cases like when using nitrous sometimes you even have to put a higher gear in it so it doesn't over rev before the end of the quarter.

i run a 4.10 gear with 26in tires. i shift at about 5700. i cross the line at about 5400 in the 1/8th. i have not ran 1/4 with it but i think you would only gain 300-400 rpm's running the 1/4------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.51 @89mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://prestage.com/site/site_display.asp?SiteID=141

4.10s work well in the 1/4mile with 110 mph trap speeds. You'll be right around 6,000 thru the traps. SteveW

BTW,Your trap rpm should be a couple hundred over your shift rpm. So, 4.10s look like the ticket, with your converter slippage it'll work out well. When we ran the 351w/c-4 (4000 stall) with 4.10s it went 12 flat at 112mph with 4.10s and et streets in the 1/4. SteveW

I'm sure your motor made tons more power than mine, and my car is heavier, but I'll be thrilled if I can break into the 12's with what I have, and mid-12's would be a wet-dream! I just ordered a set of new Hooker Comps, it will be hard to remove the cast iron manifolds, as I show anyone the motor who wants a look, and so far all they see is a factory stock package, so now I'll have to perform!
