Yes, I saw that show as well, quite cool. Apparently, most of these guys had ran in the "Pure Stock" drags, but were stretching the rules, with strokers, ported heads, better cams & convertors etc. But still, running well into the 11`s with iron exhaust manifolds, full exhaust, on bias ply Polyglas tires is very impressive. I too was dissapointed to see no Fords running, but I guess most Fords have some drawbacks for this type of racing. The 428CJ Mustangs would appear to be naturals, but you would need to run the F70-14 tires, as the much larger G60-15`s were limited to the Boss cars until 1971.Also, the 70 would be a bit better, due to the wider rims (14x7 for 70, compared to 14x6" for 68&69). Also the 70 had a true dual exhaust, compared to the single crossflow muffler used in 68&69. Although I`m a die hard 4 speed guy, I would have to admit hooking up 6" of true bias ply tire would be a bunch easier with an automatic. a 429 CJ/SCJ Torino would have decent power, but they weigh a lot. A 429 CJ Mustang came with the G60-15`s, that may be a workable combo. I doubt this to be a very budget oriented class, look at some of the "hitters", 426Hemi Challenger, all aluminum ZL1 Camaro,440 6pack`s etc. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, an awful lot of Ford musclecar owners are afraid to wail on their "precious metal", rather if they run the car at all, they baby it all the way down track, & then act suprised when their "unbelievably powerfull" 427, 428CJ, or Boss 429 car is awarded a 15 second ET slip. How embarrassing! That FAST class would interest me if it was a couple thousand miles closer, even if just to watch.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd
