I posted my original question in the classics by mistake but I really wanted it here. This is the hi-rise dual plane like the one used on the 289 shelby's.Will this work ok on an otherwise stock 66 289 2 barrel motor, dual exhaust,4 speed,3.20 gears.I'm not looking for a huge improvement ,its more for looks than anything, but I have read this is more of a mid to high rpm manifold and I don't want to kill mileage and bottom end.Opinions please yes or no.

I've been running one of those on my mild 302 since last May, and it is fantastic!! You won't be disappointed.

I'm just in the process of switching over to a Performer 289, as the C90X was borrowed from a friend, and he wouldn't be too happy if i sold it with the car. I'll be testing to see how the Performer works this weekend, but I expect to see abit of a drop in power, especially in the 5000-6000 rpm range.

Carb recommendations?Remember this isn't a race car, looking more for driveability and mileage.Engine is otherwise totally stock.I was thinking of a 600 Holley but appreciate any recommendations.

That's what I'm running on my engine (Holley 600 VS). Here's my combo:

1979 302, bored 0.040" over
flat top pistons with small valve reliefs
stock 1979 smogger heads, decked with stock sized valve and minor bowl work
stock crank and rods
dual roller timing chain
CompCams XE262H cam (.493/.500 lift, 218/224 duration on a 110 degree lobe separation)
C90X intake (now being replaced with a Performer 289)
Holley 600 VS carb, 68 jets in front, 72 in back with a 6.5 power valve

I run a T-5 manual tranny with 3.73 gears. The car is VERY responsive and pulls great. Gas mileage is surprisingly good, when I can keep my fott out of it. You should be able to tune the 600 to work very well with the stock bottom end and the C90X manifold.

Either a 4150 600-700 CFM Holley or a 1.12 Autolite will work best on a stret car.
