What exactly is an externally bypassed fuel pump? I have seen this on some high-end pumps, but I have no idea what it means. Thanks!

That means that the pump has a pressure by pass port that returns fuel to the tank. The "high end" pumps as you call them, are capable of delivering 250 gallons per hour of fuel at well over 30 psi. This is to help the pressure from overcoming the needles and seats on the carbs. The Aeromotive pump that I use on MM is so equipped.

So your pump will return fuel to the tank? I thought the pressure regulators did that?

Pressure regulators by design regulate the pressure that the fuel enters the carb/injectors at. They are not by pass devices, although some companies offer by pass regulators also.

Thanks for the clarification. Is there anything you don't know?
