He has "Been there and done that" already. He was bad at it the last time in the truck program and won't ever go back to drag racing again. Not enough money or glory in it for him. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Yes, Jack tried his hand at NHRA in the early '70s. He didn't fair to well. But, we do have friends here in Pensacola that have one of Jack's '71 Mustang fastback drag cars! The current owner has all the paper work and plenty of race photos. He even races the fastback at a local track. To the contrary Dave, Jack and his former partner Wayne Gapp did very well in the early 70's and through about 1982 in drag racing with NHRA. It was about that time when FoMoCo approached him with the Trans Am program. It was in the mid 90's and Roush's involvment with the NHRA Pro Stock Truck program where he failed miserably. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." I agree, I doubt if he will ever go back to NHRA. And I dont think they are any more fair than NASCAR as far as rules and favoritism goes. And since Ford Motor Company has no desire to get back into NHRA racing (Force doesnt count, the only thing "Ford" about his car is the emblem on the nose), Jack wouldn't be competative without corporate help (that's why the truck program failed), and Jack likes to win.

Since FoMoCo fotted the bill$ for their PST program they dictated the engine builder. Roush was/is under contract to FoMoCo and he was asked if he could build the engines for the Hill/Stevens PST trucks. (much to Roy Hills chagrin)He told FoMoCo no problem and start mailing the checks. NOT ONCE did Jack Roush show up for any of the truck tests or races throughout FoMoCo's entire PST involvment! Roy Hill wanted Kuntz to spearhead the program and FoMoCo did contact him. He told FoMoCo that he would need $150k up front to start and 6 months devlopment time just to get a baseline. The money was not the problem, it was the time. Roush told FoMoCo that he already had the technology and could start immediatly. Roush's engines were consistantly 100 HP down from the GM and Mopar efforts and over 75 HP down from Kuntz's own Comp PST style engine program that he did out of his own pocket. Roy Hill lobbied and begged to get Roush out of the deal, but he did not have the clout. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Oops, I was wrong. It sounds like the PST failed due to Jack's arrogance.
