Well after 8 years of racing pulled the 428 down for inspection, an refresh. No real cylinder wear, piston skirts look new #3 , #4 and #7 top 2 piston ring gaps were lined up. All Con rod bearings still had full babbit. Mains #1 still had all of its babbit, #2 just slight babbit wear, # 3 Cap showing light copper, very little wear on thrust faces, # 4 slightly more copper , #5 all copper still slight babbit traces. All block side mains had full Babbit.
Crank mics out at;
Main Journals
#1 2.7385 2.7384
#2 2.7388 2.7385
#3 2.7382 2.7385
#4 2.7380 2.7382
#5 2.7383 2.7385
Rod Journals
#1 2.428
#2 2.428
#3 2.428
#4 2.428

All Cylinders
4.161 to 4.162
inline and across 3 places
The rings look good
The Cam is a Crane CCH-288 It looks good no bad lobes. Good to fair lifter contact pattern.
All hydraulic lifters are good, polished contact faces
Well after all of that I plan to use one of thoes ball hones to break the glaze and install new rings and bearings.
This engine with CJ heads ran 12.70s Consistantly. ( with a 750 DP opening only 3/4 throttle ) With GT heads it would run 12.60s ( 750 Full open ) 4 speed shifting at 5,500 67 Mustang GT FB, 350 gears, G6015 American Racer Dirt compound tires. 1.950 60s with slapper bars.

I like what I see as far as wear is concerned but would like to go a little faster (don't we all) My CJ heads are now rebuilt and I am having the Edelbrock head repaired from the 390 STUPID mistake. Would you expect to see an ET improvement using the Ed heads compaired to GT heads, ( I'm using that as the base line because of the Carb screw-up) Still shifting at 5500 rpm?
What recomendations would yall make on the Motor. The Stang still sees a lot of street driving but it is moving more towards the 1/4 mile. I have installed Total Control subframe connectors and Caltracs.
