I re-set my lash today and noticed that two of them were set at .036 cold and the rest were .028-.029. Could this make much of a difference or not really? I re-set them all to .027 cold. The proper setting is .026 hot.

I don't think that was it, but who knows. Did you try fatter jets to go along with the denser air?

Yes, I did try. I went up 2 sizes from 81 square to 82/83 results were about the same but with more soot on the plugs. So,I jetted back down.

Maybe the converter is going away or the trans is slipping a bit. I'd study the 0-60', 60-330', 330-660', 660-1000' and the 1000-1320' ets to see where the et went. If it's on the top end you lost h.p., bottom end is traction. In between has to be some slippage going on, or wrong shift points.

Why is wiping cam lobes getting to be common?
Are the cores made in China now and not hardened or something?

I checked my valve train for lift when I was setting the lash. I originally thought it might be the cam as well but I dont think so.
I will definately check my slips to see where I'm losing time.
Thanks,
Brian
