will changing the cam in my 351w from the 284 to the 294 make a differece. Is the 294 to big for a street strip appication? the specs on the 351w are: victor jr intake roush 200cc heads hooker headers speed demon 750 carb 3000 stall converter comp cams Grind: 284 Lift: .541''/.544'' RPM Range: 2300-6500 comp cams Grind: 294 Lift: .554''/.558'' RPM Range: 2800-7000

what diff ratio are you running? i am thinking that you will need more stall and maybe more diff, i run a 294s in my 347 with a 4.1 diff and a tremmec,at 35mph (our local speed limit)in fourth gear its doing 2000rpm and its very unresponsive,it wakes up at about 3800.is it streetable?? well i only drive weekends so for me yes others no.

You need a higher stall, like 4000+ to take advantage of the new cam. And 4.10 gears too. SteveW

so if i were to use the 294 cam with 3500 or if i have to 4000 stall converter, and 4:11 or 4:56, will my car still be slow off the line, and power less at low rpms on the street, or will the taller gear and stall gear solve that problem?this is a street/strip application [This message has been edited by thumpin cat (edited 09-22-2002).]

the engine will spin up quicker off the line cause of the 4.11 or 4.56 diff but the 294 will move the powerband futher up the rpm range.do yourself a favour put a solid 294s in it.i am not familiar with stall convertors while just cruising, maybe some1 else can guide you
