It won't make much difference. Run just enough octane to prevent detonation.

I'm running 91 in my 333, with a true (mathematical) c/r of 10.06:1. Not a single ping or knock

i emailed two petrol companies in sydney (bp,shell)and i asked them what sort of comp ratio their 98 octane fuel would support, there respones were 9.5 to 10.1 maximum,so im at my limit for pump fuel,i would hate to see what what comp ratio our 91 octane fuel could cope with.

I'm running on av-gas. Tried the Mobil 98 and had pinging. Comp is 11.8:1. Steer clear of the Shell Optimax as they are supposidly having some problems with it. Our 98 is RON (if thats the higher) so I think it's about equivelant to 94 in the US. You should be fine with the 98. The promoted performance increase using the higher stuff comes from being able to advance the ignition without detonation. What I did was use a higher octane than I thought necessary, tuned the engine to what I wanted, then dropped octane until I had pinging.

Oh, then went back up until no pinging

Paul
