My first solid cam, so please excuse the elementary question

270S cam, Comp ProMagnum roller rockers. I set the lash at .022 (per spec) while the motor was still on the stand... now that the motor's got one hour of cam break-in (two sessions) and 80~some road miles, I pulled the valve covers to check. The lash is now .028! I can see the valvetrain seating in some, but is this normal?

Yes, that's very normal!
The lash setting is "hot". You should have reset it after breaking in the cam while the engine was still at operating temp. You didn't hurt anything, just warm it up and adjust them again.

Steve,
About when does the valvtrain stop breaking in? I only had about 50 miles on my 351W when I raced last weekend and ran the motor passed 7,500 RPM, but most of the time shifted about 6,000. I havn't checked the lash again but will in a couple of days when off from work. Odd that my new Comp solid cam states to adjust lash at 0.018" It is a custom grind, if it makes any difference.
Dave

Dave,

Once the cam breaks in it should be stable umtil other parts wear. Like valves sinking into the seats or rockers wearing, etc. You should check them every 5,000 miles but you probably won't have to readjust them. It's cool cause you'll be able to id parts wearing prematurely that you wouldn't know about with "juice" lifters.

And,

Cam break-in is 20 minutes at 2500 rpm, so it's broken in.

Just check my lash hot, lots of hard miles, and the lash ranges from 0.018 to 0.022" so I guess everythings working OK.
