How do I cut them open and where? I attempted to cut the end off with a Stanley knife but could not cut through. I want to look at all my filters when I remove them so how do I do this?
Thanks,
Dave

I used a hacksaw back when I did this. I then ignored the hacksaw shavings. You can tell the difference.
Best thing is to get a system 1 or some other type of removable element oil filter that you can take apart and inspect.

dave, I cut a slot with a hacksaw and then used sidecutters to cut it open(or whatever they're called...sheet metal scissors? shears?..whatever)
