I'm wiring the switch to my BM shifter. The stock switch has 4 wires.White wire has power, red with blue stripe when connected to white will start motor. When I add the other red wire it ingages the starter without turning the key to start position. The fourth wire I'm unsure about.
Should I just use the white and red with blue stripe and forget the other 2?
What should I do with the other 2 wires?
Roger

The neutral swtich that is externallly mounted on most of Ford's earlier transmissions (C4, C6) use one pair of wires for the backup lights (maybe why one wire is hot) and the other pair for the park/neutral positions in the starter activation circuit.

I would think that the starter wires would both be red as the base color and then a stripe of another color????

If you have one of the 12v test lamps, probe the red wires while you have the key in the start position. The lamp should light, and the go out when you release the key to the run position on one wire. Then match the other wire color to the wire on the solenoid on the fender. These two wires will be for your netural swtich on your new shifter.

The other two wires can be hooked to the backup light switch on your shifter if so equiped.

Thanks I was drawing a blank on what the other wires are(backup lights) now it's simple.
Alex the car came with a C5 and I'm using the wires from the stock plug.
Thanks Roger
