I am running thin of money for my 65. I have decided I don't really want to race it often, just on the track occasionally. I am going to go sleeper and save a few grand. I want to build a daily driver that I will race, so performance in the 65 is taking a back seat for now. (I am not telling what kind of car. Starts with H, has less displacement than a mountain dew 2L, and will run 11s with a turbo) How would a 393 stroker with some iron roush heads be? They are a few hundred cheaper than Vic Jr heads. ($4000 for 393 with vic jr $3400 for iron headed engine) I should still be solidly in the 12s I would think. I want aluminum for the weight advantage, but would these be OK? Do these heads use stock ports for my intake and headers?

You would have to port he roush heads a little to get them to flow as well as the Victor Jr. Try to find the Jan 2002 Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords which feature an article on how to port the Roush heads. Easy port job, and you get good results.

You should easily see low 12s with a mild 393 in a '65 I would think. I'd say 11s are definitely possible with the Roush heads, although porting would help.I certainly don't want to start an import vs domestic thread here, but I know a good deal about those cars, and you are going to have a hell of a time getting 11s out of any FWD car, and certainly not in street trim. You might get a killer MPH and a highway beast though ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber [email protected] with AC and overdrive. http://www.maverickgrabber.com

That is good news. I would go with the Vics, but this is no longer a crazy race car like I wanted and 600 dollars savings is cool as well. 11s would be great. I believe that the owners of indymustang will port the heads and also port match them with my Performer RPM intake, so even better. About the import thing. 11s are only possible if the car is done correctly, such as... BUILT iron sleeved forged pistoned engine - high boost from a turbo - correct turbo exhaust, LSD equipped transmission - tuning - solid suspension and more tuning. It will be in a CRX, so weight, or lack there of, is on my side. It does take less to build a stang engine I will agree.
