I was headed to a cruise last night and lost a bearing in the rear axle, so it is time for a rebuild. The good news is the "Might as wells" have already kicked in big time.I know there is a certain amount that a Mustang rear axle housing can be narrowed without moving the spring perches. Does anyone know how much? I seem to remeber 1.5 inches on each side, but I might as well go as far as I can hence the question. ------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"

JayOn a 68 the left axle is 27 1/4", a Maverick axle is around 25 1/2" and fits fine. This makes the whole rear about 3 1/2" narrower, but i've shaved the bevel off the ends of Maverick axles and made the 67-70 housing narrower by 2" each side. This allows an 8" wide rim with about 3 1/2" backspace to fit.
