hey there, I am building a 521 (460) motor for a 69 fastback super street car and would like to know if any one has tried to put a set of blue thunder heads on big block going into a car with shock towers? My towers are already notched as much as posible without removing them altogeter. I was running a iron head 460 and it was kind of close space wise. I do not mind having a set of custom headers made, but I would like to keep the front end.
Thanks

Brad Johnson

I doubt id the will fit unless you reshape the shock towers some. the SCJ exhaust ports or between 1/2" and an inch higher than the stock heads. The chevy ported heads are each 3/4" wider and higher.

Try pulling your tubes up an inch and see how they fit. And if you can't pull them up that far, then you would have to cut each tube and add to their length.

the head itself may not even fit without headers. The shock towers can be trimmed right up to the control arms, making notches for each header tube, the steering box may be more of a problem. It'd need custom headers, but i'm sure it can be done. Choose the raised 429CJ ports, i've seen the Chevy port versions and those would be near impossible to make headers to fit in there.
