I seem to remember an article in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords last year where they took a Ford Racing 393 crate motor and swapped on a pair of box-stock AFR 185s in place of the GT-40X heads, and pulled 500+ hp at the crank, and got even more with a cam swap and Demon carb. I would say that yes, 500 is doable with the 185s, given the right bottom end, cam, intake and carb.

I still like Edelbrock's heads.

The rpm's for 400+
The Victor Jr's for 500+
Ported Vic Jr's for 600
All the above use standard headers, ports raised a whole 1/8" for the Vic Jrs.

And Victors for racing.....

OK call me "old fashioned"

I think my combination of 10.5:1 393W with AFR 185's, Victor Jr, 850DP, 1 3/4 headers and a special order Comp tight lash solid lift cam is is somewhere around 500hp. I'm getting almost 98 mph in the 1/8 mile. I've been working mainly on the suspension right now and haven't really tuned on the motor any as far as jetting and timing so I'm sure there's a little more left in it. I think I'm also in some need of more gear. Have 4.11 now want to add some 4.56's as funds allow.
