I would like to build a budget stroker and was looking at a couple different cranks out there. has anybody dealt with Hawks or Eagle cranks? I'm looking at the 500 hp and below so a cast crank should fit the bill. thanks in advance.

500 hp out of a 347 is no budget motor; that's a mean number for a smallblock. I hear good things about Scat, in fact I'm shopping for a 331 crank and Scat is one of my finalists. I'd be STOKED to see 400 flywheel hp out of mine, and it'll be fairly aggressive as far as street motors go

it is a budget motor when you're only paying $140 for a crank that will stand up to 500hp, which I may not reach, but I know I don't want a crank that will stand up to 1000hp for $700 when I won't be trying to reach that on the street. looking at cat, hawk, and eagle(which is the most expensive). I believe that 500hp or close to it should be obtainable on 93 pump gas. Anyways I can get the cat crank for$140 plus $40 shipping, what do you think?

Here is one about CAT. Weather or not you buy a kit from me, or anyone else PLEASE do not buy Cat, Prolwer, ect junk parts and expect quality results. When your machinist has to grind the crank so far to get it within spec, when your balance is poor, when the tolerances aren't right you would have saved yourself money from the start if you bought a quality kit.

I offer Scat parts as I have visited their facility, know the people who engineer the kits and parts and can stand behind the product 100%. Eagle, FPS, and Probe all make quality parts as well, you'll find Keith Craft sells Eagle and Scat parts, Probe and Coast High are the same company and if I remember right FPS uses Scat or Eagle parts as well (I haven't checked on this in a long time so don't quote me

Here's another vote for Scat. It's what I used in my 393. I got it from Keith Kraft, great service also. I looked around at all the budget crank kits and ended up saving money by shopping around and buying the components individually.

There is no way a NA budget 347 will have 500hp. Even if you go with a cheap crank you'd still need killer heads so figure over $2K with the machine work.

Realistically I'd guestimate 280-320rwhp for a budget 347. The numbers will depend on the parts and what you mean by budget.

It can be done. My friend RESTOMAN made 423 rwhp with a 347. So i'm sure the f/wheel hp would have been over 500. RAY

I didn't say it couldn't be done... just not with a "budget" motor.

We're using Eagle's 4340 forged crank and 4340 forged H-beam rods in Melissa's 408W. The engine builder doesn't care for Scat, sooo
