50 million? Geez, there must be big bucks in drag racing, does the fans pay those bills? Our new 53 bed hospital only cost 45 million Canadian! Dave

50 million for the whole project though, which included work on their 14 turn road course. I'm glad to see them put the money into the track as it really needed it. My old high school had more bleacher space that that place did. From the photos it looked like the road course was in between the main grandstands and the drag strip which are seperated now. I guess thats a good thing.. it did seem a little harry being 20 feet from a 6000hp top fueler as it launched out of the staging area.

I saw a NASCAR race there and it was cool to be able to wander around and watch the racing at different turns. the pit area was also open to spectators. Now I have an excuse to go back! Dave

WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!! Heat up those jugs Larry! We've got an 1/8 mile of concrete to play with now! LOL....I can't believe the Doc won't let me race, I might have to break Doctor's orders and take a shot at that new surface after it's got a little rubber on it.------------------ Butch 460 powered 1967 Comet Cyclone 10.271 @ 130.069 Butcher's Home Page "Friends don't let friends drive Chevys"

But a little rubber build up will help it this summer. I gotta couple et drags to donate to the "cause" SteveW

Yeah pollution control sucks. Why only California? It makes no sense. So we put MTBE in our fuel to make it burn cleaner, but then it contaminates our water supplies and causes more environmental damage than it was intended to prevent. Then we force oil companies to remove it by a certain date, and the consumer eats the cost in raised prices at the pumps. So not only do we inconvenience ourselfs with unrealistic environmental laws, and poison ourselves with untested chemicals, we stick a foot in each others asses by paying for it to all be undone. Great job Davis. Don't even get me started on energy decomissioning!

...and when the remove the MTBE, they replace it with ethanol. Last I heard, by performance engine wasn't built to run on corn. I can't wait to de-rust my tank and fuel system every year.

Mark Thomas won more'n a few races with corn in the tank and in the pan. Beyond my opinion (I just plain hate gas) burned gasoline is in fact bad for the air, water and ground and it's a lousy fuel source even after over 100 years of development plus the stuff it's made from is useful for just about everything else a car is made of other than steel, glass or aluminum. At some point we should start thinking that burning a limited supply of a thing that is needed for a ton of other uses to make sub standard horsepower as compared to many other fuel sources is dumb. If other fuels were legal and encouraged they would have taken over the carscape around 1946 when the air first started getting so very visable. You can defend the oil barrons if you want but in my opinion oil sucks just like the politicians who keep it as the only legal fuel source so they can "stay" extra super rich and don't give a damn if it kills you.

I checked out the site, and in all fairness if you think that track can even remotely compare to SearsPoint Raceway you're suffering from cabin fever.
I wonder if they let you guys snowmobile on it in the winter? Michigan is nice "I guess", but don't knock Northern California. I for one am not about to move to Michigan. SteveW

Steve66,I didn't knock N.Cal.I just said NO Smog when asked to beat that.It probably can't compare with S.P.Most of the racers there have been at it for 20yrs in the same cars.We know each other, like eachother, help each other, and race each other. Were just tickeled to death that our old track got rebuilt instead of devoloped into 200 houses or another bigbox. We need your track and you need ours to keep this thing going.Oh Ya,we do have snow buggy drags.More than a few run in the 12s.Hawlen *** In The Snow.WEEEEEEEE! 63fairlane

K, 63 fairlaneIt's just that us Californian's get tired of being picked on. If the other 49 states had a life they wouldn't have to devote 25% of their news coverage to what happens here. SteveW

Glen, You sound like you'll fit in just fine with the manual tranny racers here on this site! Do you remember TomP when he visited us year before last from Canada? You two spoke about your '67 I think. He and several others have called us all kinds of bad things for switching to an auto. All in fun, of course. For those that don't know, Glen runs a '67 GT fastback with a 428 and a toploader. It usually runs low 12's on street tires in full street trim. Welcome to M&M Glen!! SteveW

Whoa, definately not backing any oil companies. Just a little ticked at the bs burocracy we have to go through. Why is it that California has to be two years ahead of the rest of the country in terms of legislation? California the state is the 6th largest economic power in the WORLD, so why is it used as a test bed? Just a little off topic rant.. sorry 'bout that.As far as gasoline as a fuel is concerned, I can't wait to get rid of it. Personally, I really want to see more research in electric cars. From what I've read, its the battery technology that is really holding us back. And I'm not talking about those crappy sub compact electric hondas or anything similar.

Volts is run by the same guys that run gasoiline and so instead of electricity being produced in a sensable clean manor and making a regular profit they want to burn coal to make voltage to charge up the clean car and then make the super extra profit off of it. If you had the same number of electric cars on the road today as there are gas cars the demand for power plants in and around heavy populated areas would be huge. The electricity don't like being run very far in a wire so a place like LA Ca. would disapear in the haze 'til the wind came up. I favor a choose your favorite fuel type deal where some cars run on methane from pig doo doo and some run on nitro ect. Just as long as the oil barons aint runnin the whole show.------------------ If a little's good and a lot's better then let's try using too much!

Well the latest is; it'll be open 4-10-'02 from 4pm til 7 pm for T&T for 10 sec and slower cars only. No eliminations, looks like they want some cars to "season" the track but not bounce off the guard rails. Who's going?SteveW

Hmmmm....that's very tempting, I wonder how much grief I'd get from the Ol'Lady if I ran off with my hotrod for the evening.
