hello everyone! ok, heres the deal...brother in law bought a marine 302 motor which was supposed to be fresh (50 hours old) which is looking like a lie so far. however the heads were D00E castings with the large "old style" spark plugs and 351w cast on top. the intake runners he said look larger than his current 66 289 heads, he said the valves look big too. there are however smog bumps in the exaust side. are these 1970 351w heads? if so, which set of heads would best best for maximum performance from a 289 or 302. we have the recently (not ported) reworked 66 289 heads, completely reworked with larger stainless valves in the car now. we have a set of used E7TE heads (5.0 heads) and a used set of D00E heads (70 351w we think). which set of the 3 can we make the most power with? i'll give my thoughts and hope to hear from you so we make the best choice. i like the E7te heads because the combustion chamber design is supposedly better and i believe you can run bigger valves than the early style heads (small spark plug) after the heads are ported. the 66 heads dont have smag bumps but i dont count that as a plus because either set we use will have mild port work and the 66 heads probably have the smallest chambers but cant the other 2 sets be shaved or will the amount of shaving required to get close to 9.5:1 throw the valvetrain geometry way off? the older heads do have adjustable valvetrains however. what would you guys recomend as the best route? we have the stuff to do some home porting but if the machine work gets withing $200 of cast iron aftermarket heads im going to heavily recommend to my brother in law against playing with the factory castings. he's running a 67 coupe very similar to mine only with a c-4 (3500 stall/kit) verses my toploader. thanks for the help.------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.79 60ft. time.

Chips 67 check out this site http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/flowdata/castiron.htm neat site with lots of tech which should be right up your alley as I believe your running a 5.0 motor in your 67.I was checking out the combo's section for a camshaft.

ok, just checked it out....just what i needed, thanks. looks like they all stink without some work. i like the intake side on the 351w but it looks like the exaust on all the casting really hurt. the intake to exaust size ratio looks the worst on the 351w heads though. checked out the aluminum heads on the site, wish they had another sourse for the afr stats than the catalog from afr. i cant tell if the speed shops are lying about afr "tweaking" their flow data or if they are in bed with trick flow too much? i cant tell if edelbrock is purposely advertising lower numbers than they actualy flow to fake us out or is everybody else lying? thanks for the info anyway. ------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.79 60ft. time.
