I posted this over in the "Fox" section, too. I wasn't sure where the best response would come from...

Okay, no laughing allowed. Yes, my brother wants to try using the "love to hate them" 7.5" Ford rearend in a low-powered NHRA stocker ('80 Capri), to take advantage of the lighter weight. We haven't been able to locate anyone that makes a true spool (no mini spools, please) for a 7.5. Anybody here know of one?

Hello Alex and Tony! Can't wait for USCNII!

mark, i run a carrier with the spider gears welded up in it in my 7.5. it takes a long time to do it because you have to weld a little and let it cool, then repeat a bunch of times. i have had no problems with it. before i got it, it was on a 6.90 et mustang that had 1.40 60 ft times. the guy finally destroyed the rear end but it did not damage the carrier. just one option.
good luck

Welcome to M&M TurboGT!

NHRA General Regulations 2:11
"Welded spider gear rearends prohibited in all classes."

"Aftermarket axles and axle retention device mandatory on any car (regardless of class or E.T.) with a spool."

Wouldn't an 8.8" be easiest?

He can't do the welded spider gear thing, due to the rules as shown. Sure, the 8.8 would be easier, but the difficulty is half the fun! Just looking to save a few pounds of unsprung weight, that's all.

Thanks for the welcome!
