What is the steps on setting the pre-load on a hyd cam? Im having a problem with the engine backfiring through the carb, I want to check the pre-load and see if it is correct. Thanks 351C 4V (Crane roller tipped rockers)

i used a dial caliper to check mine. i think you shouldnt get but about 1/4 turn past the point where you cant turn your push rods with your fingers. if i remember correctly it is about .020 to .030. someone please correct me if i am wrong.

If you can get the engine to idle I prefer to use the back it off till it ticks and then tighten till it stops method. and then turn 1/4 -1/2 a turn more.I find theres to much room for error usiing the method of turning the pushrod to feel for drag or until it stops turning. On my first engine build I never did get the pushrod to stop turning until I had bottomed out the lifter and ruined it.
