I'm about to install Edelbrock Perfoermer RPM heads on my 289. They have instructions to drill 1 hole in the block on each bank, by number 1 cylinder and number 5. The Edlebrocks have 4 coolant passage holes at the top right of each cylinder, not just by #1 and #5 position on each head. The gaskets also show a hole in the same spots. My old heads had a hole at the top of each cylinder that match an oval hole in the block at each cyliner. These are not present on the Edlebrocks. Why does Edlebrock have me drilling only one hole on each bank, instead of 1 hole at each cylinder to match the holes in the Edlebrock heads? I don't want to make a mistake here. Anybody install these heads on an early 289 block before?

I called, Edelbrock, and they said that one hole in #1 and one hole on #5 is all I need. I didn't really get an explanation as to why there are 3 other water passages in each head, and yet only one will be used. Anybody shed any light on this? I am anxious to put them on, but I really would like to know the "why" before I do.[This message has been edited by 65driver (edited 03-21-2002).]
