The 9" rearend for my 66 Mustang has axle tubes of a larger diameter than stock, i.e. wider u-bolts. I need to get spring/shock mounting plates with the correct bolt pattern or traction bars that eliminate the plate entirely. Are aftermarket traction bars for 65/66 Mustangs designed for the stock 8" rearend only or are they compatible with the larger tubes of a 9" rearend. What do you all recommend? Thanks much.Matt

Matt,Get a pair of Lakewood traction bars for a 9" rear ($100). The spring plates are included with the bars, then you'll need 4ea 3" u-bolts, I bought a lowering kit from Kragen for $20 and cut the bolts to length. That will work well and is the best suspension mod for the $$$. SteveW

Those trac. bars sound like the ticket, do they have a spot to mount the shock absorber? Thanks Steve!

the stock 67-73 rear ends have 2 3/4" diameter tubes, truck and big car housings are often 3" diameter... easy enough to measure the distance between the front and back holes on the traction bars. U Bolts can be gotten at spring shops, there gotta be those around, try the phone book

those lakewood traction bars have the spot to mount the shock to... but the didnt seem to help out all that much on my car. the lenth of the traction bar isnt all that long. I would try a different set if I were to purchase them again.. just my 2 cents...
