Does anyone know where I can find out the standard driveshaft lengths for different vehicles?
The reason for this is I need a shaft 50 inch from c/l of joint to c/l of joint.
I wanted to get an aluminum shaft, I know Ranger trucks and Crown Vics have them, maybe others.
Too long is okay, a local shop will shorten and rebalance for $50, will come away much less than the $300 to $350 for a new one.

If you find a list, let me know. That would be real handy in the archives.

The later model Aerostars have aluminum driveshafts too. 79-93 Mustangs are 45.5" long, for the archives.

Thanks, Charlie! Is that for manual or automatic? That's the centerline of the U-joints, right?

If I can get enough measurements, I'll create a chart that we all refer to.

It's manual, but I don't think it matters.

I'll start by giving length of 68 small block. Let's set up a uniform standard of measurement-from exactly where to exactly where on shaft. We don't want to give anyone the shaft! LOL!

I also want to replace my driveshaft with an aluminum one, mine needs to be shortened anyway. Will a Crown Vic or Ranger have compatible U-joints? Are they all strong enough?
Thanks,
Dave

65-68 Mustangs with small blocks and C-4/Top loader are 49-50 inches depending on the pinion yoke used.

Lots of info, but not the info I was looking for.
For the record, 67 mustang with 289 and C-4 and 8 inch rear, measures 51 inches from c/l of u-joint to c/l of u-joint.

The 9 inch going in is one inch longer than the 8 inch so I will need a 50 incher.
