Hi-The 1969 Mach 1 have right now has a FMX transmission, I was thinking of dropping it and getting another transmission like a C4 instead.Do you guys think this is a wise decision? Also, would you guys recommend other transmissions like the AOD and C6.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd spend the money elsewhere unless you're building a strip car. The FMX is a bit heavy, but it'll take a lot of abuse and is fine for a street car.

I agree. Unless you were drag racing it and needed the .2 or .3 difference, I wouldn't replace it unless you have to. Everyone knocks the FMX tranny, but it's a pretty stout piece. I'm keeping both FMXs in my Mustangs, unless I decide later to go AOD, which I doubt because of the cost. ------------------

FMX is OK for a street car. Could use a high quality shift kit though. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Part time secret agent license #0089 US Class Nationals link

I'm curious cause you asked it on the Racing forum. And for racing the FMX is only good as a boat anchor. SteveW

What automatic transmission do i recommend?Hmmm... (thinkin) ... hmmmm NONE!! Get a stick... sticks are happenin' ... sticks are faaaar out. Anyways, if it's a race car you'll be wasting money to try and get torque pervertors and valve body stuff for it. It would be strong enough and fine for street and mild racing.

Yes, the Trans Go shift kit is the best available for the FMX. Tomp, you just like pulling your stick that's all. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Part time secret agent license #0089 US Class Nationals link
