Where is the best place to mount an ignition box? If it is under the hood, that would make it hard to use the hand-held programmer. If it is in the car, then I would have to run longer wires. Which box you plan on running? On my street car, I have the box under the hood, on the inner fender panel, in front of the shock tower on the drivers side. In my racecar, the ignition box is inside the car. It came with long enuff wires to reach the distributor easily. Granted, neither of mine are programmable, but I sure wouldn't hesitate to put it in car.

The only answer I have on this is "Away from heat". Either some place under the hood that has air flow or inside the car. Electronics are affected by heat and the value of some of the components vary in value when exposed to hi temps. And that doesn't exclude MSD, Accel or Crane or.....

I have mine mounted in exactly the same place as KidV under the hood. After you get your car dialed you're not going to fool around with the programmer anyway.

We have all of our Holley ignition boxes mounted on the footwell area of the floors in the race cars. Up high and out of the way on the passenger side. Easy to service if need be and away from the heat. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Part time secret agent license #0089 US Class Nationals link
