Does anyone know the volume of the chambers on E5 5.0L heads? I have a set that I am planning to put on my '68 289. My '68 heads were 61cc. I have heard the E5 heads are 64cc and I also heard they were 69cc. I am trying to calculate my compression to help me pick out a cam. Any tips on measuring them myself?? Thanks, B-loose

If you are refering to the E5AE-CA heads that came on the 85 Mustang 5.0 engines, they are not a very nice head. They have 69cc chambers, with 1.78I & 1.45E valves, & use the pedestal stamped steel rockers. As near as I can tell, they are the same smog heads as a 78-84 head that was used on the 302 2 barrel engines in Fairmonts, Granadas,TBirds, 79 Mustangs, as well as the 82 Mustang HO 2V, & 83&84 Mustang 5.0 HO 4V.I believe the only difference between these heads & the E5 head is that the E5 head has recesses at the bottom of the castings to allow the removal of the "new for 85" hyd. roller lifters to be removed. Without these recesses, the lifter would hit the bottom of the head when trying to remove them. Thus you would need to remove the heads to pull the lifters. ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

Darn!!! I got these heads on ebay and thought they would be E7 heads. They were supposed to be from a '92 Mustang 5.0L. Should they have been E7 heads? I am not too worried about flow as I can port them, but my compression will be terrible with stock pistons. I guess this means I will have to do the lower end now too. Do you know the cc of the E7 heads? Thanks, B-loose

hey, i have a decent set of e7te heads if you are interested. these are the exact same heads you are looking for from the 87-95 5.0 high output mustangs. they are good for porting, be sure that you do your port work before you have the heads machined. i also have a set of d80e heads which work well if you have a sink-hole.------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.79 60ft. time.

What do you need to get for the E7 heads?I take it they are in need of a complete going over? Thanks, B-loose

don't waste your time porting the 85 heads and going for domed pistons just to make decent compression ratios. The far better way is to go with smaller chambers and flat pistons. For the money you'll spend on the bottom end you could have aluminum heads.
