I am running a 560 hp 466 i a 68 stang. When the motor was built the builder told me to run 3 1/2" pipe and I did .But,I was on a budget after just having the motor built and just ran staight pipe out of the 3 1/2" collectors ,no crossover into hooker aero chamber muffs then a piece of 12" pipe out of the muffs. Now I want to redesign the system since I have some cash. I want to run out of the collectors into a Dr.Gas X pipe then into Flowmasters (not sure which ones yet) then turn ot before the wheels and have it all jet hot coated. I just want to know what is the cutoff point for 560hp as far as pipe size goes ? saw a chart somewhere in a magazine and I think 550 was the starting point for 3 1/2 pipe. This is mostly a street car occasionally strip. The car is loud as hell now !! I dont want to lose any power if I drop down. If thats the case I will stay at 3 1/2".Also Am I correct in saying exhaust pipe is measured in O.D. Bob

Check out N2OMike's post down this page. "Good header tech and design info" The link has a chart recommended exhaust pipe size versus horsepower.
