I have a 66 mustang with the original standard 3-speed and I would like to install a T-5. What parts will I need to do this? Will I have to cut another hole in the floor or will I be able to use the original shifter hole? Will I have to cut or buy a new driveshaft? Do I need any conversion Kit?How do you think the trans will work with 3.8 gears? How much will this transformation co$t?

You will need a fair amount of parts and mechanical aptitude, A donor car is the best bet. It is not a simple swap and can cost well over $1500. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Go to:http://www.fordmuscle.com Go to their archives. They have an excellent T5 conversion article. If you already have a 5-speed available and since you already have a clutch and bellhousing with your three speed, you can make the swap for $500 or less. If you don't have the transmission yet, then the price goes up. I have 5-speed in a 65 and 66 with this conversion and am quite happy with both. It takes a spacer plate that will bolt to your bell housing and a transmission crossmember and a T-5 yoke. The shifter will fit the existing hole in the hump with out any cutting. CJ Pony has about the cheapest kit for $365. This way you will still use your existing clutch and Z-bar. Yes,Unless your current drive shaft is too short now. The t-5 is longer (about 3/4") and you'll need the yoke (to fit the t-5) installed on your driveshaft too. SteveW

This is all covered in the Fordmuscle article. Read it.As for the slipyoke... Isn't the output of a T5 28 splines? Won't the old slipyoke fit? (I guess I could go back an re-read the article) Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367

That's what I originally thought too. But, when I went to drive my car the first time after the swap with the automatic slip yoke it had a wonderful vibration. Now with the T-5 slip yoke, no vibration. So yes you need to switch the slip-yokes.------------------ 1968 302 5-spd Fastback 1965 Coupe 1981 F-150 email: [email protected] [This message has been edited by 68Mustang (edited 11-26-2001).]

I just finished the swap on a 67, the slip yoke is different, I used the adapter plate and crossmember from Darkhorse Performance, my driveshaft was the correct length, but, it was originally an automatic car ( ? ). If I can help just send me an e-mail, it's still fresh in my memory but don't know for how long.
