I was recently given a open chamber D3xxx 4V cleveland head. I thought I would now have a complete set of open chamber heads to sell.
I checked the valve sizes for the free on and it had 2V valves in it. 2.04"/1.65"
My question is, do these heads have any better velocity than the standard 4V heads?
I have heard superstock guys run these heads for better low end torque.
Anyone have any info?

Smaller valves with the right cam will make a lot more low end on a 351C.

Will the open chambers desire to spar knock reduce power elsewhere?
Ideally, well a fantasy lets say...you could weld up the open chambers and grind them into any shape you wanted I guess. I have heard of guys using some sort of insert into the bowl area of standard 4V heads and running smaller valves. Is this possible?

Sure it's possible, but VERY cost prohibitive.

I thought all 4V cleveland heads came with the large (2.19) valves??

Apparently a few of the 1973 heads had the 2V valve sizes. These heads carry the same casting numbers as the 1973 big valve heads. I guess they just ran them through the 2V tooling at the factory.
