Russ, I had a similar question on my 347 trying to find a plug 14mm x 3/4 reach gasket seat. Anyway I went to the Autolite webb site, www.autolite.com and filled in their questionaire, I expected an e-mail back, what I got was a phone call the next day. Had a good conversation with their tech guy. He said that most speciality questions he would rather talk in person to find out more.

Russ,
Last season we had the guy that supplies our race fuel take a look at our plugs and make some recommendations. As you may recall, we run a big block with DOVE-C heads. Our compression and C.I. aren't quite as large as yours but he suggested Champion RF9YC plugs and several others that would cross reference to them. We chose the Champions because they were the easiest for us to get our hands on. I'm interested to see what Autolite comes up with.

Have they been working well for you? Maybe their QC improved from when I was a tech.

The place I once worked at used Champions on the used cars, and bad plugs were very common. But that was about 20 years ago, and I've been thinking lately that maybe I'm stuck in the past and need to update my thinking.

If it has changed, it has been within the last 10 years. When I started racing I was running Champion plugs. After blowing the porcelian clear out of 2 plugs from 2 diferrent sets, and losing the round both times becouse of it, I have never ran a Champion plug again.

We used to use them on the used cars we prepped because we would get them real cheap and more times than not I'd have a misfire and have to find the dead plug. We all hated them.

I never ever had a bad Autolite or AC plug. New, anyway.

Ok,

Marty at Autolite left a message in my office yesterday, so they do call you personally.

I called back this morning and he is gone for the day, but they said he will call me back!

I'll let everyone know when I speak with him.

I have NEVER had any luck with Champion spark plugs in ANY FoMoCo performance application. We have tried and tried them many times over. They always seem to either foul out at the most inopportune time or just are not the heat range that they interchange/cataloge to. they also have a very poor selection of 18mm plugs. Belive me Champion has given us dozens of free plugs over the years and would put us on an endorsment deal if we would use them. I can't and won't endorse any product that does not show a performance gain over a proven one. IE: Autolite/Motorcraft. Alex
