I was going to put a coverter from my son's 302 in back of a 351w with the C-4 but after close inspection someone must have put it in wrong once and buggered it up! So I have a coverter from a 250 IL6 with a C-4 It fits in fine but will it hold up? And it should stall higher too? right!!

i wouldn't expect the 250 convertor to stall much higher, they are similar diameter. The convertor can be reworked tho, check for a local torque convertor specialist. A damaged one can be fixed too, but may not be cost effective.
