I called up comp cams and got them to work up some numbers on a custom grind solid flat tappet for the cleveland. If everything was put together as stock, would this cam clear?

282/288 adv dur, 244/[email protected]" .590/.598 lift on a 108 LSA

This is with a 1.7 rocker (I'm going to run their pro magnums). I know there's no way to tell for sure until it's put in and we see, but I'd like to get by without pulling my heads if possible so I don't have a way to check without risking bending some parts beforehand. I'm trying to decide whether to gamble and go for it or just go ahead and pull the heads and clay it up.

Neal,

You could use a pair of the light valve springs and a dial indicator, or even feeler gauges to check the valve/piston clearance. You'd pump up the cyl with 100psi of air to hold the valves up so you can change springs with the heads on the block.

I would bet, that unless the block has been decked dramatically, it will clear just fine. The solid I am running is 255,266 @ .050, with .589, .615 lift and it clears with a lot of room to spare.
But, it is better to be safe than sorry. I would figure out a way to check it.

MrWesson22,

Your lift numbers should give you a little clearance to spare... But it never hurts to check...
The duration numbers sound a little high for the lift, unless the heads have been modified to speed up the velocity.. That sounds like a chevy grind to me..Somewhere in the neghborhood of 260/270 sounds better for the Cleve.. But what do I know..

Do your pistons have valve reliefs in them? I am running TRW flat tops with a 244 @.050 and .623/.623 on a 110 and no problems so I am sure you will be just fine...
