Hey Alex, what is the proper Ft. lbs. to max out at when installing closed chambered iron heads on a 351C using Victor Reintz head gaskets?

95 lbs on the short, 105 lbs on the long bolts. This is providing you have used FoMoCo bolts. Add 5 lbs for new high quality bolts. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

I torque mine to 115 ft lbs using ARP bolts with their moly lube on them.

I don't mean to show any disrespect Kid, but 115 ft lbs with ARP lube is way too much! ARP says to use 80% torque with their lube and 100% with motor oil. 115 ft lbs with ARP lube is like 140 ft lbs with oil. I torque my 460 to 120 ft lbs with ARP lube on a 9/16" ARP stud. I used to torque my FE studs (1/2") to 90 ft lbs with ARP lube and I never torqued them more than 110 ft lbs with motor oil....keep in mind, bolts are less forgiving in regards to stress on the threads, deck and bores than studs are. 115 ft lbs with ARP moly can't be helping your block problems as of late....have you ever measured a cylinder bore when a torque plate is on and torqued then rechecked it after the plate has been taken off? I've seen cylinders that were within .0001 of round and straight with the plate on change as much as .003 1.5" down the bore after the torque plate has been taken off on our thinwall Fords, .0015 to .002 is about normal from my experience. Now take that same block and put the plate back on and add 10 ft lbs of torque....it'll move another .001 to .002 or even more depending on how thin the block is.....food for thought. ------------------ Butch 460 powered 1967 Comet Cyclone 10.271 @ 130.069 Butcher's Home Page "Friends don't let friends drive Chevys"

Ummmm.......oops.... I have had those head bolts for so long I forgot about their recommended torque specs. I have never checked one with a torque plate, kind of a low budget operation. And the shop I go to is pretty small and they dont have one either. I think alot of my current problems have alot to do with undersized pistons in oversized holes. My main problem is I run alot of junk for parts. If anyone actually saw that set of pistons I am running, they would be amazed the thing stays together at all.

I know Butch. You were agreeing with me. I didn't mean to come across as as disputive. SOrry if I did. I just like to be as short and to the point as I can most times. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Alex, my bolts are stock FoMoCo bolts and are all 4 1/4 inches in length not including the bolt head. Would that classify these as long or short?
