I got a 390 given to me and was wondering if there is any stroker combinations that will work with this block.I have a shock tower kit for my 65 comet and to have a FE under the hood would look cool but not sure about the performance I would get from the 390.

A 428 crank will make a 410 out of a 390, the 410 was a stock FE size in Mercs and Edsels.

Mercs 66-67...the Edsel 410 was a whole 'nother series of engine ,based on the MEL series, 383 (yep Ford!),410,430 and 462

you can also stroke the 390 crank by using a rod with smaller journals and offset grinding... but there is a real diminishing rate of return for the money spent. Its fairly simple and cheap to build a 450 hp 390 , the extra 20 cubes is not as cost effective.

I thought it was the same 410. That's what I get for doin my own thinkin! I agree the stroker cost more than it returns and nobody offers a shelf piston for the 410 FE combo which drives the cost up even more.

pistons are just mid 70's 390 truck replacements, they have over .100 deck clearance to make 8 to 1 compression in those 390's... make a 10.5 to 1 in a 410
