A buddy of mine picked up a '69 351W long block. He'd heard somewhere that the '69 to '71 cranks were weak and shouldn't be run in a strong street engine. I know squat about Windsors so I thought I'd toss it to the forum for answers. Is there any concern with his crank living inside a performance motor?

Thanks,

Scott

I've don't recall reading or hearing anyone say the '69-71 351W cranks being a weak part.

I have a 69 351W crank in my stroked 351W. It is offset ground to 3.70" stroke X 4.060 bore for 383ci.

It's going on it's 5th season of regular bracket racing with shifts from 6800-7000. No problems at all. With Windsor Sr iron heads and a smallish solid roller it runs 6.80's @ 100 mph in the 1/8 mile. Motor only. Maybe a bottle at some point in the future.

I think the key is a good balance job and it will live for a long time.

Later,

David Cole
