Ok folks,

Lets have a poll as to what brands of race fuel to all of you use. Going to buy a drum tommorrow and would appreciate input.

Last year I used VP C-12 (green). It worked fine, but was more $$.

Before that I had used Sunoco Std (purple). I saw no difference when I switched to the VP. The Sunoco costs 1/3 less.

The distributor that I'm going to get mine from has it all. He supplies the Superspeedway at Talledega plus most of the local dirt roundy round tracks. Below are just some of what he has in stock. The others he carries are out of range of what I need.

Brand Motor Oct Reseach Oct Pump R+M/2 cost

Sunoco Std 106 117 110 55gal 198
VP C-12 108 110 109 260
Phill 66 B32 106 114 110 193
Phill 66 B33 109 119 114 225
Unocal 106 114 110 195

Suggestions? What do you guys use? To be used in my 383W, 13:1 comp, 40 deg total timing, run a tad rich for safety, 7K rpm, 3000 lbs.

Later,

David Cole

VP C-11 is what we use normally. VP 921 to go very fast.

We use VP C-12. (You get what you pay for, a friend got some cheap fuel - also included water - took a long time for him to figure out what was wrong with his car)

It's good to go fast!

I decided to try the Phillips 66 B32. Never have used it before, but found out that some of the most consistent bracket racers in my area use it. So decided what the heck.

Bought a 55 gal drum. Cost was $192.

Pump octane is 110, Motor octane is 106, Research Octane is 114.

I don't think that Phillips 66 is on the NHRA accepted fuels list David.

Oh well,

I'll use it anyway. I don't race NHRA. My track is IHRA, but they don't check fuel or anything. It's bracket racing. The only NHRA track I go to each year is for the Fun Ford Weekend race at Montgomery in May. They don't check fuel there for the bracket cars.

I did find out that 4 out of the top 10 in points at my track (footbrake) used this fuel last year, so it is pretty consistent.

If I don't like it I'll go back to the Sunoco or VP. BTW, I checled their website and the fuel is made by Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. If that makes any diff.

Sorry, but I forgot to tell you that IHRA has adopted NHRA's fuel acceptance policy for 2001 also.

As Alex calls it, I run sewer gas Normal people call it alcohol.

When I did run gas, I ran VP products, either VP-Red, or we ran some C-14 for awhile. The quality standards on the VP is much higher than what most other manufacturers have. At least I think so.

I have always run Turbo Blue with no troubles. Also used Unocal 76 years ago,you know the stuff that Nascar uses. It seemed fine also. The Turbo Blue only costs me 3.46 a gallon at the station that carries it down the road. It would be a lot cheaper in 55 gallon drums I assume.

We also used Union 76 110 for many years with great success until NHRA signed VP as the "official" fuel of the NHRA and threw everyone else off ther property. Not wanting to transport anymore fuel than we had to we were forced to switch to VP and pay more for it.
