ok guys picked up this 68 falcon wagon last milininum 289" c-4 since the cold weather, acting up sits over night takes 3-4 minutes in gear to actavate the warp, drive and move. After that works normal { other than slowest 2-3 shift} i have ever felt. changed fluid and filter screen,no debris in pan. Retorqued the intermidit band ,checked the vacumn modular ,its holds vacumn and the rod is in place, seemes to me a sticky valve in the valve body??? give me your ideas???

I think you nailed it. Could also be a slight warpage between valve body and transmission, or leaky valve body gasket.

I'd just put a Trans-Go shift kit in it and give the valve body a good cleaning.

I say give the automatic the heave-ho and replace it with a stick!

But what little i know (and care even less) about automatics makes me think its more likely hardened seals causing it. A whole tranny overhaul with all new clutch plates and bands should probably be done if you are taking it out and apart anyways. The parts kit doesnt cost much ,tranny shops can do the rebuild in a few short hours... don't ask me why it always costs $1200 for them to do the job

c-4 are noted for internal seal problems when cold, car sits overnight and the seal contract allowing the fluid to pass them causing low pressure, after the trans warmes up the seals expand and the car will move.
recomend replacing seals ,at the same time replace any worn parts.just my experience over the years.

When you pull the valve body to install a shift kit inspect the unit for flatness. C-4 valve bodies have a tendancy to warp. You can block them back to life.
