I've got a husky (home depot model) I believe its made by CH. 7hp, 60 gallon, vertical, 10.3 scfm @90psi. I works great, only drawback is if you're running an air sander, the tank cannot keep up.

I think pretty much anything is going to be noisy. The number one thing to consider is how much airflow you need and how much you can afford, and what will give you the most for your money.

I'm extremely pleased with the Lowe's Kobalt 60 gal upright for $450 (bought on sale 10% off!!).

Those oilless compressors are noisy as hell. Plus, it's a higher pitched shrill sound. Very irritating. The compressors with a seperate motor and belt driven oil type pump are the quietest. Among these, the larger, slower rpm pumps make the least noise.

I have a Craftsman Oiless. It IS loud. But it has served me great for 10 years now. I've done 0 maintenance and it still works like new. Well worth the money.

The Craftsman units are annoyingly LOUD!
Look at Menards or Sam's Club for some good deals on piston units.

I also have a Craftsman beltless compressor, & I HATE the noise it makes!! Loud buzzing sound. I have to admit, it has worked flawlessly, but I think I`ll sell it & buy another SpeedAire cast iron pump, belt drive model. I had one before, and it worked fine, and was MUCH quieter. The only reason I replaced it, was that the SpeedAire was only 1 1/2HP, and the Craftsman was 5 HP. I guess I`ll get a 5HP SpeedAire.
