I bought one by Lisle that I dont like and kind of like the ones that are like a big C-clamp with a lever on it. The C-clamp type one I have is starting to get a little wobbly and would like to get a heavier duty version. Where can I find one? Is this one the best I can get? ]http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=452331845 4&category=35625 I think this KD-380 is the one I have but its getting loose.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 01-31-2005).] [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 02-02-2005).]

That one looks ok. I have two, one is a Craftsman and it's a dangerous piece of junk. The other is a Snap-On I was lucky enough to buy used, and that one is like the Lincoln of compressors. It uses a cam action on the lever and it's very smooth. It's also very sturdy and has no twist in it at all even using the heaviest springs. If you can find one of those on ebay, I wouldn't hesitate getting it. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

They work well, and quick. So well that you can end up with the ole black fingernails if you're not careful. Don't ask how I know that. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I have a Moroso stud mount type. I love it. It works great. It's meant to be used on the car, but you can use it on the bench also. It screws down unto the rocker stud and has a cam action sort of like a compound bow to make it easier. I can easily compress my 770 lb valve springs with one arm.For the heads on the engine you use an air fitting to put air pressure in the cylinder to hold the valves shut. Nylon rope will work as well. I used mine on the bench just the other day on my recent rebuild. I used 2 large C-clamps and clamped the head to the bench with a balled up shop rag under each chamber to keep the valves closed. Worked great and very quick. Moroso # 62370 http://www.moroso.com/catalog/categorydisplay.asp?catcode=27035 About $80 for the Moroso unit or you can get a generic form Jeg's or similar mail order for about $50 ------------------ 557 BBF Powered, alcohol injected rear engine dragster. 4.90 @ 143 1/8 mile. 1.09 60'. It's built well. I've used mine to swap 5-6 complete sets of springs. Only thing I had to do to it was choose the stud size. In the picture notice the shaft that screws down onto the rocker stud. It's threaded on one end for 7/16 and on the other for 3/8. To swap sizes you have to remove a couple of pins (held in place w c-clips) and flip the shaft over. The handle also comes off, leaving a short stubby inner handle. So, if you are in a tight situation with shock towers or wahtever just remove the handle, screw the tool on and then replace the handle when you have room to use it. That Snap-on cf811b looks like a good buy. Here's a picture of mine: I thought it was a Snap-on but now I'm not sure, it doesn't have any identification on it at all. I was hoping I could give you a model number. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Yes, it must be. Springs never need to be compressed that much, so it's probably not the action.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
