Of course they work. Back in the day we used them to check air/fuel ratio.I still have my old one, but mine needs a new probe. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Let me re-phrase the question. Is it more accurate then a tach. or vacuum gage????? Have you ever compared results with a oxygen sensor?

It actually is an oxygen sensor, really. That's how it calculates air/fuel ratio, I believe.Vacuum gauges and tachs are useful, and you can tune with them alone. AG analyzers will just give you another picture. The only time anyone would really need one if if they need to keep an eye on the numbers to pass emission inspections. You can have a really good running engine that still blows dirty on the analyzer and all inspectors care about are numbers. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I have heard that these exhaust gas analyzers are slow to react to adjustments. Eastwood sells one with a digital read-out it measures the % of carbon monoxide in the exhaust & they provide a chart to convert that into the air/fuel ratio.

As Steve indicated, they're basically an oxygen analyzer, which is dependent on the condition of the oxygen sensor -- and the sensor DOES go bad over time.... Personally, for performance tuning, I would rather invest in a Exhaust Gas Temperature gage and probe setup. Ryan
