I used some toothpaste to polish some sport lamp lenses I'm restoring, and they came out awesome.

Gotta love a low cost polishing compound!

somebody once told me it removes unwanted marks from glass as well

A gunsmithing trick, fill the trigger mechanism with toothpaste then Dry fire ( NO BULLETS ) a few hundred times, clean the paste out and your trigger action will be much smoother. Only do this if you are capable of disassembly for cleaning.
