How's this for a deal? Pick up an honest 20 HP for under $200 with a simple BOLT ON!Install a set of Crane 1.72 Ratio pedestal mount roller rockers and increase your cam lift and duration in less than 3 hours with simple hand tools. Works equally well with speed density or mass air equipped cars. Engine idle will get a bit lopey and a shim kit may be required on some engines. Crane #44746-16 rocker kit $193.00 plus shipping. (compare to Jegs or Summit) Shim kit $10.00 additional. Order them fast as they will not last at this price. Alex,The rockers showed up today. Fedex left one box (the rockers) outside on the front door step and one (the rod bearings) on the back porch. Must have been delivered in two different trucks. Odd. Thanks, Dan Jones

Alex,It looks like I didn't need the extra shim kit. The rocker kit comes with shims, bolts, fulcrums, and the channels. In case anyone is interested in these rockers, they are the same rockers used on the '93 Mustang Cobra and carry Ford's logo and part number (F3ZE-6529-AB) so should be good for the long haul. Hey Alex, Would these rockers bolt into an '85 5.0 HO-4V without any problems? Would any lash setting tricks be needed? Ryan

Yup! They will bolt down on any pedastal mount 302-351W. The "MOST" you would need to do is place some shims (supplied with rocker kit) under the pedastals to raise the rockers a few thousandths. Each engine is different. Some need a little, some need none at all. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! I might be interested Alex, but... I've heard stories about a tapping from the motor after installation. Some people say the rods are too short others say the tapping goes away after 20 miles or so. Would this be a problem on FRPP crate engine? or should I not worry?

Nothing to worry about as long as the installation is done correctly. The most common mistake that guys make is that they don't use the supplied shims correctly. They install too many shims and they engines will clatter all of the time or when cold. Those that use common sense and follow instructions have zero issues. All roller rockers will make a tiny bit more noise than a stock rocker, but that is the nature of the beast. It can only be heard under the hood if you listen very closely. Otherwise, they work FANTASTIC!!!!!! 90% of the time you will not need to use the supplied shims at all. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! I didn't need the shims. In fact, I was close to needing longer pushrods, as mine ended up on the minimum side of the spec. The Crane instructions say 20 to 60 thousandths pre-load or 1/4 to 1 turn on the bolt. IF I recall ou discussion on the phone correctly, Alex recommended 60 thousandths for quiet operation but said he's run as little as 10 thousandths. Most of mine were 20 to 25 thousandths. The deepest was less than 40 thousandths. My block, heads, valves pushrods, lifters and cam are all stock with no machining except for the valve job which would tend to help (deeper valve would push pushrod deeper into lifter) in my case. The only non-stock part that could alter the geometry are the Victor gaskets and the rockers themselves. I had the intake off, so I could see exactly when the pushrod was depressing the lifter, otherwise I think it would have been easy to get the zero point wrong for the preload. The first rocker I set by feel, I didn't think I even had the minimum 1/4 turn. Alex, with 20 thousandths, I should expect some clatter on start-up but, once warm, it should quiet down, correct? Lots of things can affect the geometry. If I had a thicker headgasket or had surfaced the heads of the valves, I probably wouldn't have been able to get the minimum spec and would have needed longer pushrods. On the other hand, had I milled the heads or block, I would not have been near the minimum spec. Dan Jones
